The Finisterre Way is the only one that starts in Santiago. This Camino crosses quiet villages, remote farmlands and unspoiled landscapes, finally reaching the sea cliffs of the westernmost point in Spain, at Cape Finisterre.
This beautiful region of Galicia is known as the “Coast of Death” and Fisterra (Finis Terrae) was once considered to be the end of the world. The route follows the stunning craggy coastline of Atlantic Galicia to the fishing village of Muxia.
*This will allow you to claim your “Fisterrana” pilgrim certificate in Finisterre and a ”Muxiana” pilgrim certificate. It is similar to the Compostela but issued by the local governments of Finisterre and Muxia.

1st day: ARRIVAL IN SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
They city of Santiago is the biggest village in the world and, at the same time the smallest city on the planet. This Galician capital combines the comforts of small locations and the advantages of large and sophisticated cities.
The historic centre was declared as a world heritage site by UNESCO, is the jewel in the crown and was constructed stone by stone around its majestic cathedral. The discovery of the tomb of the apostle in the 9th century transformed this in a sacred place forever.
2nd day: SANTIAGO - NEGREIRA (21.2 km - 5h15 - difficulty 1/3)
Breakfast and start of the stage. The walk out of Santiago de Compostela starts from the Praza do Obradoiro square.
Today’s route will take you through small villages and across ancient Roman bridges.
Your destination is the medieval town of Negreira, where you will be able to visit Pazo do Cotón, the country house of the Cotón family, and the chapel next door, dedicated to St Mauro.
3rd day: NEGREIRA - OLVEIROA (33.2 km - 8h - difficulty 2/3)
After breakfast, transfer to Negerira to begin the day’s stage.
From A Barcala, the Camino continues by the side of mountains and across the river Barcala.
As you climb Monte Aro, you will enjoy great views of the Fervenza dam before you reach the wild Serra de Castelo mountain range and Xallas valley.
Small hills and green pastures welcome you on your way.
4th day: OLVEIROA - CEE (17.9 km - 5h15 - difficulty 2/3)
Breakfast and start of the stage. From Olveiroa the track follows the river to Logoso and goes past the hermitage of Nosa Señora (Our Lady).
After this, the trail continues downhill through the pine groves of Alto do Cruzeiro da Armada. From here, you will get your first glimpse of the sea!
5th day: CEE - FINISTERRE (12.1 km - 3h30 - difficulty 1/3)
Breakfast and start of the stage. On your last walking day to Finisterre you will travel along a beautiful path, hugging the cliffs and coves along the coast.
Your final destination is Cape Finisterre, where you will come to the magnificent lighthouse.
Watch the sun set at the ‘End of the World’.
6th day: FINISTERRE.
Free time to return to Santiago.

If you decide to continue along the coast to Muxia:
6th day: FINISTERRE - LIRES (14 km - 4h15 - difficulty 1/3)
Breakfast and start of the stage. It will take you two days to walk to Muxía.
From Finisterre, you will travel along a beautiful path, hugging the cliffs and coves along the coast, enjoying breathtaking views.
The village of Lires has outstanding sandy beaches, which are perfect for a swim on hot summer days.
7th day: LIRES - MUXIA (14.8 km - 4h30 - difficulty 1/3)
Breakfast and start of the stage. The walk takes in the hamlets of Frixe, Guisamonde and Morquintián, before you reach Monte do Facho.
Enjoy the views at Praia de Lourido beach, where you can go for a swim.
The quaint seaside village of Muxia is your final destination. Make sure to visit the sanctuary of Nosa Señora da Barca and its holy stones: the rocking stone and the ‘kidney stone’, next to the Atlantic Ocean.
8th day: MUXIA
Free time to return to Santiago.
