Arrival in Nazaré
Welcome to the fishing village of Nazaré, a picturesque place with small houses and narrow streets around a beautiful bay, crowned by "Sítio". Here you will find the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, from the 14th century, with an unforgettable view over the village and towards the north and where you should visit the fort of Nazaré and the Praia do Norte (north beach). Underwater, just in front of the fort, the Cannon of Nazaré originates the biggest surfable waves of the world and contributes to the enrichment of the biodiversity of these waters, essential for the fishing industry of Nazaré.

DAY 2: Stage 1, Loop in Nazaré
Breakfast and start of the stage. Starting in Nazaré, the trail climbs to Monte de São Brás, a volcanic hill crowned with lush vegetation and breathtaking panoramic views. It then winds through pine forests and dune landscapes towards the vast Praia do Norte, a beach famous for its raw beauty and giant waves. Following the dramatic cliffs, the route reaches the iconic Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo before descending back into Nazaré’s vibrant seafront, where the journey comes full circle.

Stage 2, from Nazaré to Alcobaça
Distance : 16 km Difficulty : 3/5
Breakfast and start of the stage. Leave Nazaré behind as you head to Alcobaça, best know for the Real Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça (Royal Monastery of Saint Mary), founded in 1178 by Cistercian monks and classified as World Heritage by UNESCO, in 1989. The monastery has been well preserved, including its huge kitchen that includes a direct water source created by diverging the flow of the Alcoa river. Alcobaça is also very well known for its egg-based pastries - Doçaria Conventual.

Stage 3, from Alcobaça to Porto de Mós
Distance : 20,7 km Difficulty : 3/5
Breakfast and start of the stage. From Alcobaça, follow the route to the village of Aljubarrota, where a famous battle took place in 1385 between the Kingdom of Portugal and the Crown of Castile, with around 6.500 Portuguese and allied soldiers defeating about 35.000 Castilians and their allies.
Continue your journey in the Serra D'Aire e Candeeiros Natural Park, with its traces of dinosaur footprints preserved in the limestone and where the water continues a millennial process of creating magnificent caves.
Arriving in the town of Porto de Mós, appreciate the contrast between medieval structures and modern daily life.

Stage 4, from Porto de Mós to Batalha
Distance : 10 km Difficulty : 2/5
Breakfast and start of the stage. Before leaving Porto de Mós consider visiting its elegant castle, whose origins date back to a Roman outpost.
From here, our route takes you north through apple and pear orchards on the banks of River Lena, rural paths and small villages, all the way to the town of Batalha. Here, a visit to the magnificent church and unfishished chappels of Mosteiro de Santa Maria da Vitória is mandatory. The intricate stonework and unique architecture that combines Gothic, Manuelino (a portuguese-exclusive) and Renaissance styles, justifies its place in the UNESCO World Heritage list.

Stage 5, from Batalha to Fátima
Distance : 19,5 km Difficulty : 4/5
Breakfast and start of the stage. On this final stretch, we leave Batalha and head towards our goal - Fátima.
Through rural paths and small villages, overcoming the climb by the small town of Reguengo do Fetal, you’ll reach the white sanctuary in all its splendour. In the Santuário de Nossa Senhora de Fátima, visit the three churches that mark the growth of this religious place.
Enter the complex from one side of the new Basilica da Santíssima Trindade, and look towards the Basilica of Nossa Senhora do Rosário at the top of the hill and, roughly in the middle of the complex, the modest Capela das Aparições - built on the spot where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to the three young shepherds.
Be it the first time you visit the sanctuary or a recurrent pilgrimage, the spirit of this place and the strength of the belief of its pilgrims never cease to amaze.
